<text>Abstract: Portable x-ray devices are increasingly used for dental care. Its application introduced new challenges inherent to operator and patient safety, forcing continuous evaluations aimed at minimizing potential risks. In the Argentine Republic, Law 17,557 regulates the use of all types of X-ray generating equipment. Currently, work is being done on specific regulations for the use of portable dental units such as the NOMADTM. The main doubts linked to this technology reside in the levels of leakage and dispersion of the radiation emanated through the shielding and leaded structures of the X-ray tube, in addition to the control of the backscatter that passes through the leaded acrylic protective shield adapted to the end. leaded end of the locator tube. This could affect the variability of exposure times, the weight of the equipment, the protection of the operator and third parties, in addition to the uncontrolled conditions of the work environment, violating the ALARA principle, that is, “as low as reasonably achievable.” By virtue of what has been expressed, and after a detailed technical-scientific analysis carried out at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Buenos Aires and at the “Buenos Aires” Assistance Center of the National Gendarmerie, from the Radiophysical Health Technical Area of the Ministry of Health of the Nation, it was determined that the use of portable devices, such as the NOMADTM, should be exclusively contextualized to expert events on corpses and bone remains, respecting the safety and protection standards emanated by current legislation.</text>

<text>Abstract: Introduction: Dental urgent-care is aimed to treat pain and infection. In endodontics, these include clinical maneuvers for pulpitis, apical periodontitis, or acute abscesses. The objective of the present study is to propose an endodontic resolution and tooth rehabilitation in a single-session. Materials and methods: 2500 patients attended dental urgency service. They were diagnosed and then asked to self-assess three variables of perception of pain: spontaneous, on-inspection, and on-occlusal contact, using a visual analogue scale (VAS) from 0 (null-pain) to 10 (maximum-pain). 122 patients with endodontic pathologies, who graded their pain in 5 or more for the three variables, were selected. They underwent endodontic treatment and appropriate rehabilitation. Subsequently, they were given an identical self-assessment sheet to respond at 24, 48 and 72 hours. Follow-up was done 12 and 24 months after. Pain perception was analyzed using the Friedman test, followed by post hoc comparisons (p < 0.05 significant). Results: The age of the patients was between 10 and 89 years old with a mean (SD) of 39 (13). Perception of spontaneous, on occlusal contact and on inspection pain were significantly reduced from preoperative to 24, 48 and 72 hours postoperatively. Conclusion: The present work suggests that the clinical protocol of endodontic treatment and dental rehabilitation of endodontic urges in a unique session is effective for reducing pain and preventing further complications.</text>

One of their complications is pulpal necrosis, which hinders the maturation of the young permanent tooth. The treatment of the non-vital immature tooth is a real challenge for the dentist, who must resort to specific and complex endodontic techniques. This paper describes the emergency treatment of an odontogenic infection in an immature tooth with a 2-year-old trauma history and the subsequent endodontic therapy used with the creation of an artificial apical barrier with bioactive material and follow-up for two years, carried out in the Department of Pediatric Comprehensive Dentistry of the faculty of Dentistry of the University of Buenos Aires (FOUBA). At two years of follow-up, the outcome was favorable.</text>

<text>Abstract: Crown-root fractures are dental injuries that affect both the crown and root of a tooth, involving enamel, dentine, and cementum. These fractures are classified into two types - complicated and uncomplicated, based on whether they involve pulp tissue or not. Treating complicated crown-root fractures requires an interdisciplinary approach. One effective technique is orthodontic extrusion, which involves moving the fracture line to a position above the gum line to ensure proper adaptation of the restoration margins. The speed of the procedure depends on the initial situation and desired outcome. This report details the treatment and follow-up of two cases of complicated crown-root fractures in permanent teeth using both slow and rapid orthodontic extrusion techniques.</text>

<text>Abstract: Periodontitis is a chronic, multifactorial inflammatory disease with high global prevalence, affecting the supporting tissues of the teeth and potentially leading to tooth loss. In Argentina, studies show that up to 97% of the adult population presents signs of gingival disease. Due to the limitations of conventional treatments, there is growing interest in complementary therapies such as nutraceuticals. Turmeric (Curcuma longa), traditionally used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, contains curcumin, a polyphenol with multiple therapeutic properties, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects. Curcumin modulates various inflammatory pathways (such as NF-κB) and reduces the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β,TNF-α), while also inhibiting enzymes that degrade the extracellular matrix. Additionally, it promotes tissue regeneration by stimulating the activity of fibroblasts and osteoblasts, aiding in periodontal healing. Several studies have shown that its topical application in gels, mouthwashes, or dressings can improve clinical parameters such as probing depth, plaque index, and gingival bleeding. However, its low oral bioavailability remains a challenge, which has led to the combined use with piperine to enhance absorption. Although the results are promising, further large-scale, controlled clinical trials are needed to establish standardized protocols. Curcumin represents a safe and accessible therapeutic alternative, especially valuable as an adjunct in periodontal treatment, particularly in settings with limited resources or as a complement to conventional therapy.</text>

<text>Abstract: Composite resins are highly effective for restoring occlusal lesions in primary teeth due to their biocompatibility, adhesion, and aesthetics. However, the incremental technique, which requires precise handling and more time, can be challenging in pediatric patients. Bulk-fill resins were developed to simplify the process by allowing thicker increments, reducing clinical steps and contamination risk without compromising their properties. The study aimed to compare the clinical time and longevity of occlusal restorations in primary molars using high-viscosity bulk-fill resins versus nanohybrid composite resins applied incrementally. Approved by the Ethics Committee of FOUBA, the study included 26 patients aged 5 to 9 years, resulting in 58 restorations evaluated at baseline, 6, 12, and 18 months using modified RYGE/USPHS criteria. Results showed that restorations with bulk-fill resin required 63% less clinical time (p=0.000) and exhibited similar clinical performance to the incremental technique group. Thus, the main advantage of high-viscosity bulk-fill resins is the reduced operative time, with comparable effectiveness in primary teeth.</text>

<text>Abstract: The unrestricted use of human teeth in scientific research has generated considerable controversy. Alternatively, other substrates that mimic the structure of human teeth can be used. The objective of this study was to observe the histomorphology of bovine dentin using a light microscope for use in scientific research. Bovine teeth were processed and visualized under light microscopy. According to the methodology used and after evaluating the samples, bovine dentin, like human dentin, is primarily composed of dentin tubules, which run through its entire thickness following a slightly accentuated italic S-shaped path from the dentinenamel connection to the dental pulp. In agreement with other authors, interglobular dentin was not observed in bovine teeth, unlike in human teeth. Regarding the arrangement of dentin tubules, bovine teeth are more irregular than human teeth. Due to the large size of bovine teeth, the diameter and number of dentin tubules is greater than that of human teeth, especially in the root dentin. It is concluded that no significant histological differences were observed in bovine dentin tubules compared to human dentin. Although bovine dentin has been proposed as the most suitable model for studying dental materials in restorative dentistry, there are differences in its structure and tubular morphology compared to human dentin, so its use in adhesion studies should be approached with caution.</text>

<text>Abstract: McCune-Albright syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by polyostotic fibrous dysplasia, precocious puberty, and café-au-lait skin patches. This pathology, resulting from a mutation in the GNAS gene during embryonic development, primarily affects the skeletal, endocrine, and skin systems, presenting a wide clinical variability that requires personalized treatments. The objective of this report is to describe the clinical characteristics and management of McCune-Albright syndrome, emphasizing the variability of its manifestations and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in its diagnosis and treatment. We present a patient in her fourth decade of life, diagnosed with the syndrome 12 years ago, who presented with facial asymmetry due to increased maxillofacial fibro-osseous tissue. The patient had previously undergone a craniotomy for ocular compression. On this occasion, a mandibular resection and remodeling was performed to correct both the excess fibro-osseous tissue and the temporoparietal depression. Surgical management, focused on improving facial function and appearance, seeks to prevent future complications. Although this condition has no definitive cure, its progression can be controlled through a multidisciplinary approach that includes surgical interventions and hormonal treatments such as letrozole, which is effective in the management of precocious puberty. This case underscores the importance of an individualized and multidisciplinary approach to optimize treatment and quality of life for these patients.</text>

<text>Abstract: The Odontogenic Keratocyst (OKC) is a benign pathology recognized for its locally aggressive clinical behavior, which, combined with its high recurrence rate after surgical treatment, makes its management challenging. The FDA’s ban on the use of Carnoy’s solution (CS) has sparked growing interest in seeking alternative chemical agents, such as 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) and Modified Carnoy’s Solution (MCS). We conducted a literature search to evaluate the efficacy of 5-FU as an adjunct therapy following OKC surgery. A search was carried out for scientific articles published in the last 10 years across various databases. All studies mentioning the use of 5-FU in the treatment of OKC were included. Out of the 147 articles initially identified, four met the criteria for the final evaluation. Relevant data were extracted and analyzed concerning the recurrence rate and nerve paresthesia. No recurrences were reported in cases treated with 5-FU, and the incidence of nerve paresthesia was 20% (with no permanent cases). This literature search has shown promising initial results for 5-FU as an adjunct therapy; however, caution is advised due to certain shortcomings that current publications do not address, such as sample size, follow-up periods, and the safety profile of the drug, to name a few. There are no scientific articles that directly compare 5-FU with CS.</text>
