A nivel local, magnificaría el daño producido por una enfermedad inflamatoria como la periodontitis. La simvastatina, una droga tradicionalmente utilizada como hipolipemiante, con efectos pleiotrópicos, podría disminuir la reabsorción ósea con la consecuente pérdida de inserción en la periodontitis. Además, el diferuloylmetano (curcumina), compuesto fenólico con efectos antioxidantes y anti–inflamatorios, podría atenuar el daño oxidativo, posible nexo entre la periodontitis y la dislipidemia.
