Description An account of the resource Resumen: La alveolitis dental se caracteriza por la aparición de dolor agudo que rodea al alvéolo postextracción, que aumenta de intensidad entre el primer y tercer día posterior a la cirugía, seguido por una pérdida parcial o total de coágulo, con o sin halitosis. Si bien su etiología se considera multifactorial, es muy controversial la responsabilidad que tienen los factores de riesgo en su desarrollo. El presente trabajo describe y analiza la incidencia de algunos factores etiológicos en la generación de alveolitis de exodoncias realizadas en la Clínica de Grado de la Cátedra de Cirugía I Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, durante el año 2019, en 1068 pacientes con indicación de exodoncias. Los pacientes fueron atendidos por los mismos 10 odontólogos docentes auxiliares. Los factores de riesgo estudiados fueron: sexo, cantidad y técnica anestésica, tabaquismo, trauma operatorio y diagnóstico clínico radiográfico. El presente estudio confirma la prevalencia de alveolitis del tercer molar inferior. Se mantiene la duda de si existe un agente causal preponderante en los factores de riesgo predisponentes para la generación de alveolitis o si la alveolitis es una complicación del proceso cicatrizal de origen multicausal que no obedece a razones lógicas para su desarrollo. Abstract: Dry socket is characterized by an important pain surrounding the socket, which increases in intensity between the first and the third day after surgery followed by a partial or total loss of clot, with or without halitosis. Although dry socket etiology is considered multifactorial, the risk factors responsibility on its development is very discussed. This article describes and analyzes the incidence of some etiological factors on the generation of dry socket after extractions performed in the clinic of the Department of Surgery I, Faculty of Dentistry of Buenos Aires University during 2019 in 1068 patients with indication of exodonces. The patients were treated by the same 10 auxiliary teaching dentists. The risk factors studied were: sex, quantity and anesthetic technique, smoking, operative trauma and radiographic clinical diagnosis. The present study confirms the prevalence of alveolitis of the lower third molar. The question remains whether there is a preponderant causative agent in the predisposing risk factors for the generation of alveolitis or if the alveolitis is a complication of the scar process of multicausal origin that does not obey logical reasons for its development.
