Description An account of the resource Resumen: Objetivo: Evaluar distancia cortical/piso de seno maxilar y ápices de primeros premolares superiores, su asociación con sexo y grupo etario. Se midieron 100 premolares superiores, registrándose la distancia ápices/cortical piso del seno, frecuencia de intrusión apical en seno, relación con sexo y grupo etario. Se utilizó prueba de rangos con signos Wilcoxon y prueba Shapiro-Wilk, con modificaciones. Se estimaró método de Wilson. Se utilizó prueba Chi-cuadrado. Se encontró diferencia significativa (Wilcoxon: p<0,05) en distancia máxima a cortical y no la hubo en distancias mínimas a cortical (Wilcoxon: p=0,41). Hubo distribución heterogénea según clasificación de Kwak (Chi-cuadrado = 203,8; gl = 4; p < 0,05): tipo I más representado (77%; IC95: 68% a 84%), tipo V menos frecuente (4%; IC95: 2% a 10%). Hubo asociación significativa entre tipología y sexo (Chi-cuadrado = 12,48; gl = 4; p < 0,05): ambos sexos tipo I más representado, mujeres tipo II menos representado (3%). Se encontró asociación significativa entre tipología y grupo etario (Chi-cuadrado = 42,47; gl = 20; p < 0,05): todos los grupos, tipo I más representado. Abstract: Objective: Evaluate distance between cortex of floor maxillary sinus and apices of upper premolars and association with sex and age group. First 100 upper premolars were measured, registered variables: distance between apices of roots and relationship with cortex of floor sinus, frequency of apical intrusion and relationship with sex, and age group. Ranks test with Wilcoxon signs and Shapiro-Wilk test, with modifications were used. Wilson’s method (IC95) was estimated. Chi-square test was used. Significance level of 5% was set. Significant difference (Wilcoxon: p <0.05) was found in maximum cortical distance, but no in minimum cortical distances (Wilcoxon: p = 0.41). Heterogeneous distribution was found according Kwak classification (Chi-square = 203.8; gl = 4; p<0.05): type I more represented (77%; CI95: 68% to 84%), type V less frequent (4%; IC95: 2% to 10%). There was significant association between typology and sex (Chi-square = 12.48; gl = 4; p <0.05): both sexs type I more represented, men type II second place (21%), women type II less represented (3%), and between typology and age group (Chi-square = 42.47; gl = 20; p<0.05): all groups, type I most represented.
