Su aplicación introdujo nuevos desafíos inherentes a la seguridad del operador y del paciente, obligando a continuas evaluaciones tendientes a minimizar potenciales riesgos. En la República Argentina, la Ley 17.557 regula el uso para todo tipo de equipos generadores de rayos X, trabajándose actualmente en una normativa específica sobre las unidades dentales portátiles como el NOMADTM. Las principales dudas vinculadas a dicha tecnología residen en los niveles de radiación de fuga y dispersión emanada a través de los blindajes y estructuras plomadas del tubo de rayos X, además del control de la retro dispersión que atraviesa el escudo protector de acrílico plomado adaptado en el extremo final del tubo localizador. Ello podría incidir en la variabilidad de los tiempos de exposición, el peso del equipo, la protección del operador y de terceras personas, además de condiciones no controladas del ambiente laboral, atentando contra el principio ALARA, es decir “tan bajo como sea razonablemente alcanzable”. En virtud de lo expresado, y mediante un pormenorizado análisis técnico-científico realizado en la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Buenos Aires y en el Centro Asistencial “Buenos Aires” de Gendarmería Nacional, desde el Área Técnica Radiofísica Sanitaria del Ministerio de Salud de la Nación se determinó que el empleo de dispositivos portátiles de rayos X como el NOMADTM sea contextualizado exclusivamente a eventos periciales sobre cadáveres y restos óseos, respetando las normas de seguridad y protección emanadas por la legislación vigente. Abstract: Portable x-ray devices are increasingly used for dental care. Its application introduced new challenges inherent to operator and patient safety, forcing continuous evaluations aimed at minimizing potential risks. In the Argentine Republic, Law 17,557 regulates the use of all types of X-ray generating equipment. Currently, work is being done on specific regulations for the use of portable dental units such as the NOMADTM. The main doubts linked to this technology reside in the levels of leakage and dispersion of the radiation emanated through the shielding and leaded structures of the X-ray tube, in addition to the control of the backscatter that passes through the leaded acrylic protective shield adapted to the end. leaded end of the locator tube.
