Los felinos, incluidos los gatos domésticos, actúan como hospedadores definitivos del parásito. En humanos, la transmisión ocurre principalmente por la ingestión de alimentos contaminados o por el contacto directo con heces de gatos infectados. Puede presentar un amplio espectro de manifestaciones clínicas, pero en individuos inmunocompetentes suele cursar de manera asintomática o con síntomas leves, como linfadenopatía cervical. Este reporte describe el caso de un paciente masculino de 27 años conocido sano, que consultó en el contexto odontológico por la presencia persistente de ganglios palpables en la región cervical por 3 meses, acompañados de fatiga y disminución de la resistencia física. Se solicitaron estudios complementarios, incluyendo ecografía de cuello, biopsia ganglionar y serología, los cuales confirmaron el diagnóstico de toxoplasmosis ganglionar. Se informó al paciente sobre la naturaleza de la enfermedad, su forma de transmisión y las medidas preventivas. Fue derivado a medicina general para tratamiento sistémico, donde se indicó trimetoprima-sulfametoxazol por 21 días, con seguimiento clínico ambulatorio y resolución. Este caso pone en evidencia la importancia del rol del odontólogo en la identificación temprana de signos clínicos que pueden estar relacionados con patologías sistémicas, así como el valor de la integración de exámenes complementarios en el entorno odontológico para alcanzar un diagnóstico preciso. Se destaca la relevancia del enfoque interdisciplinario en la atención integral del paciente. Abstract: Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic infection caused by Toxoplasma gondii. Felids, including domestic cats, serve as the definitive hosts of the parasite. In humans, transmission occurs mainly through the ingestion of contaminated food or direct contact with the feces of infected cats. The infection can present a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations; however, in immunocompetent individuals, it often runs asymptomatically or with mild symptoms, such as cervical lymphadenopathy. This report describes the case of a 27-year-old otherwise healthy male patient who consulted in a dental setting due to the persistent presence of palpable lymph nodes in the cervical region for three months, accompanied by fatigue and decreased physical endurance. Complementary studies were requested, including neck ultrasound, lymph node biopsy, and serology, which confirmed the diagnosis of lymphadenopathic toxoplasmosis. The patient was informed about the nature of the disease, its mode of transmission, and preventive measures. He was referred to general medicine for systemic treatment, where trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole was prescribed for 21 days, with outpatient clinical follow-up resulting in resolution. This case highlights the importance of the dentist’s role in the early identification of clinical signs that may be related to systemic diseases, as well as the value of integrating complementary diagnostic tests in the dental setting to achieve an accurate diagnosis.
