Description An account of the resource Resumen: El cáncer de próstata es una enfermedad prevalente que, en ocasiones, puede manifestarse con metástasis en lugares inusuales, como la mandíbula. Estas lesiones óseas, caracterizadas por áreas radiolúcidas de bordes imprecisos, representan un reto diagnóstico y pueden complicar significativamente el manejo del paciente. El tratamiento depende del control del tumor primario y la presencia de metástasis adicionales. El objetivo de este artículo es describir un caso infrecuente de metástasis ósea mandibular por cáncer de próstata en un paciente adulto mayor, resaltando la importancia de un diagnóstico diferencial exhaustivo ante lesiones tumorales en los maxilares. Paciente de 80 años acude a consulta por una lesión tumoral en la mandíbula que ha evolucionado durante dos meses. Se realizó una tomografía computarizada y una biopsia, las cuales confirmaron el diagnóstico de cáncer de próstata con metástasis mandibular. Se identificó una lesión tumoral en la mandíbula del lado derecho del paciente, inicialmente diagnosticado como absceso. Los estudios radiológicos mostraron características osteolíticas, y la biopsia confirmó metástasis de cáncer de próstata. Este caso destaca la importancia de un diagnóstico preciso y exhaustivo, así como el papel fundamental de la histopatología en la identificación de lesiones orales. Las metástasis en los maxilares son extremadamente raras, y en este caso, una lesión en la mandíbula fue detectada durante un examen clínico, es por ello que la detección temprana y el enfoque multidisciplinario son esenciales para evitar diagnósticos erróneos y asegurar un manejo clínico adecuado en casos de lesiones orales inusuales. Abstract: Prostate cancer is a prevalent disease that can sometimes manifest with metastases in unusual locations, such as the jaw. These bony lesions, characterized by radiolucent areas with vague borders, represent a diagnostic challenge and can significantly complicate patient management. Treatment depends on control of the primary tumor and the presence of additional metastases. The aim of this article is to describe a rare case of mandibular bone metastasis due to prostate cancer in an elderly adult patient, highlighting the importance of a thorough differential diagnosis in the presence of tumor lesions in the jaws. An 80-year-old patient was seen for a tumor lesion in the mandible that had been evolving for two months. A computed tomography and a biopsy were performed, which confirmed the diagnosis of prostate cancer with mandibular metastasis. A tumor lesion was identified i0n the patient’s right mandible, initially diagnosed as an abscess. Radiological studies showed osteolytic features, and biopsy confirmed prostate cancer metastasis. This case highlights the importance of an accurate and thorough diagnosis, as well as the fundamental role of histopathology in the identification of oral lesions. Metastases in the jaws are extremely rare, and in this case, a lesion in the mandible was detected during a clinical examination, which is why early detection and a multidisciplinary approach are essential to avoid misdiagnosis and ensure proper clinical management in cases of unusual oral lesions.
